Materials in the complete course include: 176 video lessons, each 5-10 minutes in length, which explore Algebra concepts in a detailed logical order. Because no shortcuts or tricks are used, the methods are easy to follow and promote clear understanding. 360 pages of course notes, which allow students to review the logical development of a concept. Each page chronologically follows the video lesson, repeating exactly what was shown on the screen. 590-page student worktext pages which review the concept developed in each lesson. More examples are given and exercises are provided for students. The explanations are virtually free of complicated language, making it easy for students to follow the lofic of each concept. Solutions manuals which provide detailed, step by step solutions for every problem in the student worktext. This resource is a powerful lool when used by students to do error-analysis of their work, and to check their thought processes. Progress tests (answer keys included) which are designed to have students demonstrate understanding, lesson-by-lesson, and unit-hy iiml There are two versions of each test, allowing for retesting or review, to make sure students have mastered concepts. |
This program is not the traditional "teachers-at-the-blackboard-with-their-backs-to-the-students" approach. It is inquiry-based and encourages the student to regularly pause the DVD, engage in analysis, and discover the concept. The videos are designed to capture and hold the student's attention through the use of computer generated graphics and animation. As a result, because the student is more personally involved in concept development, understanding is deeper, retention is longer, and concepts are transferred more easily to new problem situations. |
