| Algebra: A Complete Course was developed by Thomas E. Clark, a teacher with 30 years of classroom teaching experience, in addition to serving as a math supervisor at the state and district levels. His unique awareness of the needs of both teachers and students is a combination that helped him win the IUPUI Chancellor's Award, the Purdue Chancellor's Award, and the Purdue School of Science Faculty Teaching Award.
Mr. Clark states, "Algebra test scores in schools nationwide graphically detail extremely low comprehension and retention. Students and their future potential employers are poorly served by poor or nonexistent Algebra skills. "Algebra fosters the development of problem-solving skills and logical thinking necessary for success in adult life. Since we have become a technology-based society with a focus on "information-on-demand," Algebra, and its attendant development of higher order thinking skills, is essential. "Yet, middle schools are not adequately developing arithmetic skills with their students, and high schools are not turning out students with the requisite algebraic competencies. As a result, 50% of all college students do not have the minimal skills to take higher level math courses and must first take remedial Algebra." Clark believed that taking a multimedia approach toward teaching mathematic and algebraic concepts would make a difference in learning and comprehension, so he developed a new approach to teaching Algebra. VideoText Interactive now has a series of Algebra programs which have chalked up spectacular results in national trials and classroom pilots! |
